| Suspect In Fairfield Officer Shooting Goes On Trial
According to police Jackson gunned down two Fairfield police officers in October of 2006. 48-year old Mary Smith was killed during a routine call regarding a suspicious vehicle. She was wearing a bullet proof vest at the time, but was hit just above it. Moments later officer Eric Burpo was shot in the leg. Mary Smith had only been with Fairfield PD for two months when she was killed. She spent 21 years as a Birmingham police officer. .

John McCain, the Republican presidential contender, and Barack Obama, his Democrat rival, are both descended from the same Scottish king, it has been claimed. According to research by an American genealogist, they share a common bloodline that can be traced to William I of Scotland, or William the Lion. It was disclosed last year that Mr Obama was a descendant of the monarch who ruled Scotland from 1165 to 1214, and his background and upbringing spans the globe.
